Adoption Dreams Come True specializes in Domestic, Infant, Private and Open adoptions. Our agency also offers services for Interstate, Older child, Designated, Semi-open and Closed adoptions.
Adoption Dreams Come True primarily places infants. However we do work with the Adoption Exchange to facilitate the placement of older and special needs children.
Our agency provides complete adoption services on a sliding fee scale. These services are as follows: Domestic Home Study, Adoption Counseling, Adoption CORE Education Classes (offered at a lower cost, or a family may choose an approved class of their choice.), Legal Relinquishment/Termination, Placement and Post Placement Services, and Adoption Finalization. The agency contracts with an attorney to do the legal relinquishment and/or termination process of the birth parents’ rights in Larimer County.
An adoptive applicant may begin the process of adoption with Adoption Dreams Come True by calling the agency for an application. Upon acceptance of an application, the Home Study Assessment will be scheduled. The Home Study Assessment is a series of interviews and submission of documents to license an applicant family for adoption. This is a Colorado State requirement for any adoption. Once a home study is complete, the adoptive applicant(s) may submit a portfolio (compilation of photos and a letter to the birth parents) to be shown to birth parents. Birth parents use these portfolios to learn about the waiting families. Once a viable birth parent situation for you occurs, we will guide the process according to each party’s comfort level.
Typically, our counselors are present at the hospital when the baby is born and are available throughout the time period until the baby is released from the hospital. Placement occurs when the birth parent(s) sign voluntary custody and guardianship over to the agency and the adoptive parent(s) sign placement agreements accepting physical custody of the baby. The baby will remain in physical custody of the adoptive family and the agency will maintain legal custody until legal finalization of the adoption. This time period after placement and before finalization is called post placement. During post placement, the agency will be working on two parts of the process. The first is to complete the relinquishment and/or termination of the biological parents’ rights. This is a very important piece of adoption, however it is case specific and the time frame depends on the birth parents’ situations. This part of the adoption process may take 4 days or longer in Larimer County. The second and concurrent part of this post placement period is the supervision. The agency will maintain contact with the adoptive parents for the entire post placement period by phone and visits to the home. This contact is to assure that the placement is a good and healthy placement for child and family.
Once both of these processes have been successfully completed and the six month time period has expired, then the adoptive family is able to finalize the adoption. An adoptive family may choose to use Adoption Dreams Come True or an attorney to finalize. At finalization, the agency consents to the adoption in court and the guardianship and full custody is awarded to the adoptive family by the court.
